The Knippelsbro in Copenhagen is an architectural marvel connecting Christianshavn with the historic city center. This bascule bridge perfectly combines functionality with aesthetic appeal. One of its most striking features is the turquoise-green patina on the copper surfaces, which contrasts beautifully with the dark steel elements. The bridge’s mechanism, which lifts for passing ships, represents a harmonious blend of engineering and design. Its clean lines and sturdy construction reflect Scandinavian design principles, making it a vital part of the urban transport network.
In my photo series, I aimed to capture the unique materiality and texture of Knippelsbro. The patina, shaped by weather, time, and urban life, reflects the water and sky in a captivating way. The bridge is not just a visual delight but a functional element used by thousands daily. Through my images, I highlight the multifaceted beauty of this bridge, symbolizing the connection between past and present, and between people and the city.
